Lara Gerin – known around the world for her talents as a model, celebrity stylist and wardrobe designer – was born in a small town near São Paolo, Brazil, but now calls New York her home base. Some of her skills she came by naturally, and honed early (dressing paper dolls as a child, for example), while others developed more gradually, as several years modeling in Paris, Madrid and Tokyo – for clients such as Chloë, Thierry Mugler and Issey Miyake – gradually opened her eyes to the fact that what goes on behind the scenes is often much more interesting than what happens on the runway. In short, she developed an eye for fashion; an ear for listening to her clients’ needs and wants; and an all-around resourcefulness that allows her to produce stunningly beautiful results, no matter what’s on hand.
Lara’s work and experience run the full gamut of what any true stylist is called upon to create: she’s equally adept at editorial shoots, wardrobe design for large-scale television shows (at one point, she was a wardrobe designer for one of Brazil’s biggest channels, TV Globo, as well as chief of TV Bandeirantes’ entire wardrobe department), in addition to the intimacy of celebrity and personal styling. She loves diving into a woman’s closet, helping her clean and edit the contents, and offering sound advice about how far her client should push the fashion envelope. From classic to avant-garde, Lara knows what she’s doing. “I love the challenge of delivering what the client wants,” she explains, gesturing passionately. “I love using all my creativity to answer the needs of the project. And now that I’m here in New York, I look forward to doing just that.”
